In a canoe on Uggerby Å
Uggerby River originates in Sterup and can be sailed on from Ilbro southeast of Hjørring. The stretch from Ilbro to Sindal via Sønderskov is the least used part of a good 46 km long navigable stretch.
Here the trip goes through fields and meadows with grazing animals – a real Danish cruise at the “country” and then comes to Sindal – the town in Sunny Valley!
Sindal are known for its numerous fountains, which can be seen in and around Downtown, Sindal is a lively market and a shopping trip, it might be an idea if you choose to take a rest in “Sindal Marina”. There are plenty of opportunities to shop, eat and spend a few hours to visit bl. a. Sindal Mill, philosopher Martinus’s Childhood Home, Gøgsigs Pakhus Sindal 2 beautiful churches and much more.
The trip from Sindal to Uggerby Å expired in Skagerrak is more varied. The creek meanders through a landscape with more trees and denser vegetation and after approx. 1 ½ hour paddle from Sindal you arrive at Mosbjerg where there is a possibility to stay overnight at a primitive campground with shelters, toilets and running water. It is free to use firewood for the bonfire! The site is operated by North Jutland. Vendsyssel Historical Museum’s two farms at Mosbjerg is also worth a visit. Smallholding are occupied throughout the summer and work here, as they did so around 1900.
Further it goes against Bindslev, which arrives after approx. 3 hours sailing. Also in Bindslev is possible to stay overnight at the primitive campsite at Bindslev Gl power. The waterpower company’s engine room is open to visitors, and when one is around the Gl power you naturally will look at the Salmon stairs, where in spring you can see leaping salmon. Bindslev Craft Museum is also worth a visit.
