Denmark’s oldest activity park, located in the woods between Løkken and Blokhus in North Jutland. Here there is the possibility of almost endless experiences where only the imagination sets limits.
Here you will find FÅRUP SOMMERLAND an amusement park in a special class with all kinds of amusements ranging from nerve-wracking roller coasters to crazy water rides in Denmark’s largest water park. the only way in the north to ride a roller coaster both above and below the water.

At full speed

Here the whole family finds rides that are not experienced everyday. For the youngest it can be a flight in “The Red Baron” where you yourself are a pilot on the airplane. Or a trip to the top of the “Squirrel tower” and in rushing free fall to the ground again. For the slightly larger and bolder are even wilder rides. The roller coaster “Hurricane” suddenly drops below the water – and fortunately up again and the roller coaster “Lightning” kicks completely wild with an acceleration faster than a formula! Car: 0-80 km/h in less than 2 seconds.

Wood slide etc.
Would you like a trip in Denmark’s fastest wooden roller coaster – “Falken”? or the “whirlwind” which, as its name suggests, throws passengers up and down the full 19 meters while rotating around without respecting gravity? “The Red Baron”

However, everything is not all about roller coasters, even classic hits such as jump pillows, trampolines and climbing racks are found in abundance. Minigolf, canoeing, shooting ranges and horse riding are also part of the opportunities in the pleasant forest surroundings.

Aqua Park.
Part of what Fårup Summerland is known for is the giant water park. It is actually Denmark’s largest Aquapark and it is heated to 27 degrees, so it can be enjoyed even though there may be a cloud for the sun. The water park consists of several attractions: the wave pool where you can romp in wild waves, surfhill where you can drive down the slope, take a stroll in the giant bathing in the water hose, the largest of its kind in the world, but outdoor water slide with 2 loops and free fall.

Calm down!
When you may be saturated by the slightly more violent rides, you can get a sensual experience in 4D cinema. Or you can relax under the trees in the large barbecue area with brought food. Maybe choose instead to be treated to one of the restaurants – there are several to choose from, so you have good chances to find your favorite food. There is even the possibility of frequenting the 100% organic restaurant: Forest’s Pasta.

On horseback.
A total of 35 Icelandic horses are also available to the park’s guests. You can ride inside the park, but you can also take one of the arranged trips out into the countryside outside Fårup Sommerland for a lovely forest and horseback riding on horseback.

Close to Sindal.
It is highly recommended for the whole family to take a day off in Fårup Summerland. And it is actually not far from Sindal Camping. It takes approx. 40 minutes by car and worth the whole trip.

Rubjerg Knude Fyr was built in the year 1900 at the highest point approx. 60 meters above sea level and 200 meters withdrawn from the dunes, so you were sure the lighthouse could stand for many years without being threatened by the sea.

Problems

However, already relatively shortly after commissioning, the increasing sand fogging began to cause problems. Fine sand was blown up over the steep slope and new dunes formed in front of the lighthouse.
To stop the feeding, the whole dune was planted with mare straw, but unfortunately it had the opposite effect. On the contrary, to stop the sanding – it increased and it was soon impossible for the lighthouse to send its light across the sand and out to sea.

Giving up.
To ensure free view of the sea and also that the ships could be able to hear the fog horn, from 1920 onwards large quantities of sand have been continuously removed and also considered raising the lighthouse. But the fight was unequal to the mighty forces of nature and in 1968, on August 1, the lighthouse operation stopped.

Gaslight.
Initially, the lighthouse was equipped with gas operation which should be the best light to penetrate fog, and the lighthouse light could be observed at 42 km’s distance. Later, in 1906, the gas was replaced by petroleum to be electrified in 1934 by direct current. The lighthouse is 23 meters high.

Manning.
From the start, three men were the permanent staff to run the lighthouse: the lighthouse master + a lighthouse keeper and finally a lighthouse assistant. There was a lot of work, especially in the first years when the lighthouse got its energy from gas operation with its own gas plant. Machines and buildings had to be kept in order, which was not facilitated by the sand escape. In severe weather, there should also be a look for ships in distress. Likewise, birds that had died when flying into the lighthouse were to be collected and sent to the Zoological Museum.

Giving up again.
The lighthouse operated until August 1968, but the buildings were still intact and served as a tourist attraction. However, the sanding and coastal degradation continued, so that in 1992 it was completely abandoned to keep the buildings free and let nature take over. It ends up leaving only the tower.

Popular attraction.
Every year the tower has a quarter of a million visits, and in 2018 Hjørring City Council, after many considerations, decided to move the tower, which otherwise certainly soon would be sliding into the sea. The move took place in 2019, 60 meters away from the sea to secure it for many years to come.

”Murer Kjeld”.
The task of moving the lighthouse is placed in the hands of the local mason, Kjeld Pedersen. He quickly becomes a popular figure in the media and is then called: “Murer Kjeld”.
He has never tried his hand at such projects, but with the humility of North Jutland he is fresh on the task and does well with bravery – of course assisted by experienced people not least from the crane company: BMS.

Party by re-initiation
The lighthouse is being moved, completely without much feared drama due to the unstable sandy surface, on October 22, 2019 and re-opened with a spectacular giant party with approx. 8,000 spectators.
It is now possible to take the stairs again and enjoy the magnificent view from the top of Rubjerg Knude Fyr. One of the good excursions when visiting Sindal Camping.

Visit the largest aquarium in Northern Europe, commonly called the North Sea Oceanarium. A huge experience for the whole family to move into a world going on below sea level. Millions of different marine creatures, large and small – very small. And very strange – for example, the utterly marvelous lumpfish that most of all resembles a prehistoric life – but it swims alive, right in front of us in the huge aquarium, among the shoals of all sorts of other fish from sharks to mackerel and many more.

Giant Aquarium

The aquarium contains no less than 4,500,000 liters of seawater and the glass behind which the many liters are located is no less than 42 cm thick. The tank itself is oval and measures 22 by 33 meters.

Active visit.
The North Sea Museum, as it was originally called, was opened in 1984 and the architectural experience alone is worth the visit. The museum is constantly undergoing further development, and here, of course, the experiential content is the focal point, and you can easily get many hours to walk in the exciting surroundings with many interactive installations and stirring basins.

Program.
There are also many active program points throughout the day, not least in the large aquarium with divers feeding the lumpfish and other fish, while the audience has direct contact and can ask questions.

Sealarium.
In fact, part of the experience takes place above sea level – at least in part. In the large sealarium, the seals can be followed both above and below sea level. Here are also daily presentations.

Playground.
In the seal area we also find the large playground, which is not only a playground, but educationally themed with many exciting activities. Here you can, among other things, experience a hurricane standing on the deck of a fishing trawler, walking around inside a whale skeleton and much more.

Restaurant.
Last but not least, there is of course the opportunity to get both hunger and thirst. On the other hand, there is the possibility of eating the food brought, but there is a lovely cafeteria with a breathtaking sea view and then the unique restaurant serving gourmet standard food.
